Shaikh Zaid bin Sultan al Nahayyan became the ruler of Abu Dhabi on August 6, 1966. A new currency, fils and dinars, was adopted following the devaluation of the Indian rupee. The 1964 definitive series was overprinted. The portrait of Shaikh Shakhbut bin Sultan was overprinted with three lines. The 40 fils, 50 fils, and 75 fils are surcharged with "fils" in English and Arabic only. The rest of the issues are surcharged using the appropriate roman and arabic numeric figures as well as the currency name. On the 1 dinar issue, the old value (10 rupees) is overprinted by bars.
